Remembrance Sunday 2022

Remembrance Sunday 2022

On Sunday 13th November 2022, The Marple Band took part in the Remembrance Service at the Memorial Park Cenotaph in Marple. In addition to this, 4 of our players performed The Last Post at different venues, something to be very proud of.

A beautiful autumn day with the biggest turnout ever to commemorate Remembrance Sunday. Mike Jackson (President of The Marple Band) laid the wreath for The Marple Band.

“It was an honour and a privilege to lay the wreath of remembrance on behalf of the Band at Marple Memorial Park on Sunday.
The Band has provided the music for this occasion for well over 60 years, during which time there have been occasions when we have got through on a wing and a prayer.
It was great to see such a good turnout, especially from our young members, and as ever a good backup from the Old Brigade. When the service was over the number of people who complimented the band was indeed numerous, with a special mention of the playing of the Last Post by Andy.
Thanks to all.”

Mike Jackson, President

Marple Senior Citizens Hall Concert

Marple Senior Citizens Hall Concert

On Sunday 23rd of October, The Marple Band performed at the Marple senior citizens hall. The Band performed a variety of songs including The Prince of Denmark’s March, Der Zigeunerbaron; commonly known as The Gipsy Baron, Japanese Dream and You Can’t Stop The Beat.

Playing with The Marple Band at this concert was a unique and thrilling experience. The atmosphere of the crowd was at its peak during You Can’t Stop The Beat as some audience members joined in with percussion instruments which brings an interactive and inclusive experience a physical demonstration that the emotions from the journey the music takes the band on are shared with the audience.

The band excelled at expressing the beauty of the sea, a life well lived and the bitter-sweet sacrifices made by the brave souls that served in the navy, when they performed The Pacific and then gave a respectful moment of silence. The band took the audience on a journey of adventure when they performed Symphony of the Seas, a mashup of several famous sea shanties from across the seven seas.

After each song, the audience clapped enthusiastically and this made me feel happy because they enjoyed our performance and encouraged us to keep performing.

When Mr S. Sutton, the Conductor asked me to stand up for the audience it made me fill with a sense of pride and belonging. I liked performing Der Zigeunerbaron because it allowed me to explore many musical techniques I have learnt through the supportive guidance of The Marple Band.

The members of the band are really supportive and pleasant to be around I couldn’t wish for a better bunch of people to play with, no matter what they always help you whether you lose count of bars or forget to play a sharp or flat they are always there to support and guide you as family does.
