The 2021 Marple Band Social event at Mellor and Townscliffe Golf club was a well-attended and very enjoyable event.
With nearly 50 current and past band members and friends and family present a warm and friendly atmosphere was generated, although it might have been upsetting for the players to have to spend their Friday evening socialising rather than mastering the latest test piece.
Phil Woodhouse and Paul Beetham deservedly gained their 50-Year awards for long service to Marple Band, with Steve Sutton recognised by fellow band members for the Players’ Player award (receiving a mounted cornet he had made himself!) and Howard Groves achieving recognition (much to his surprise) from Steve Curtis with the Conductor’s Award. Linda Beetham was awarded the Outstanding Contribution award for her services to the band and her continued hard work with the VPs (Supporters of the band)
Ruth’s dedication and long-standing work was also acknowledged with a special thank you from the band.
A few photos of the event were taken but, fortunately, none of the dancing – a feast for the eyes on the night but better left unrecorded for posterity.
