The crowds were out in force for the first Christmas event in the Marple Bridge calendar on Saturday 1st December.
The Marple Band started the festivities by leading Santa on his sleigh, playing Christmas Carols to the delight of the children, from Brabyns Park to the end of Town street in Marple Bridge. The skies cleared and the weather was kind to the crowd and the band. Enthusiastic crowds watched and recorded the band playing a selection of popular Christmas Carols. The first event on the band’s Christmas calendar was a real success.
The annual Santa Dash organised by The Romiley & Marple Lions at Wyevale Garden Centre in Otterspool, Marple on Sunday 2nd December had all the closet wannabe Santas out in force to do their annual run from Memorial Park to the Garden Centre. There was a big crowd to welcome them over the finishing line and the band greeted them by playing a wide variety of Christmas music, (some on request from young children and the Sutton family) to add to the festivities.
The band would like to thank Chris Shaw, the Manager of the Wyevale Garden Centre for his generosity in donating a superb hamper of food for our annual Christmas concert raffle on Friday 14th December at Marple Conservative Club.
Over the whole weekend, the band has raised £450. A great fundraising start for the Christmas season.
